Everest Gokyo Lake Trek

Everest Gokyo Lake Trek is a classical trekking destination in the Khumbu region of the Everest which is located in the North-Eastern part of the country. The trekking takes the trekkers not just to the world famous region of the Everest but also to the beautiful and amazing valley of Gokyo. Everest Gokyo Lake Trek allows the trekkers to follow the lesser travelled trail in the Gokyo Valley of the Everest while also allowing the spectacular views of snow-clad mountains most of them over 8000 meters of altitude . The world’s tallest mountain peak Mount Everest, Mount Cho Oyu, Mount Makalu, Mount Lhotse, all above 8000 meters of altitude, are some of the highlights of the Gokyo Lake trek. Similarly, the town of Namche Bazaar, which is a trade point for both Tibetan and Sherpa traders and also the gateway to the Eveerst, Lukla, Tengboche, Gorak Shep are some other high points during the Everest Gokyo Lake Trek. The Gokyo Peak (Ri), Gokyo Lake and the entire of Gokyo Valley are full of natural splendor and beauty as the trekkers will have an amazing time trekking along the realms of the region of Everest and Gokyo during the 18-day trekking with the Royal Heritage Trek.
Panoramic and splendid views of the Mount Everest, the world’s tallest mountain peak in the world, and other mountains like Mount Lhotse, Mount Lobuche, among others, are the major highlights of the trekking. The 18-day Everest Panorama trekking is a wonderful way to learn more and observe the popular Khumbu region of the Everest as it also provides plenty of opportunities for fun and adventure related to trekking.  The scenic views of the other mountain peaks like Tawache, Ama Dablam, are also the highlights of the panorama trek.
The Gokyo Lake Trek begins with a 30-minute of mountain flight from the capital city of Kathmandu to Lukla Airport, the starting point of the Panorama trek. It will be a wonderful mountain flight as the visitors will enjoy the scenic flight amidst the mountains and the natural scenery. The Airport is also known with the name of Tenzing Hillary Airport and it is considered as one of the most dangerous Airports in the world mostly because of the altitude, the precarious location and the uneven topography. Your trekking starts from Lukla as you will trek towards the village of Phakding before reaching the popular town of Namche Bazaar.
 
Outline Itinerary
Day 1- Arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to Hotel
Day 2- Sightseeing in Kathmandu
Day 3 – Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, trek to Phakding
Day 4 – Trek to Namche Bazaar
Day 5 – Rest day in Namche Bazaar
Day 6- Trek to Dole (or Khumjung if altitude sickness is a concern)
Day 7- Trek to Macchermo
Day 8– Trek to Gokyo 
Day 9: Rest day and acclimatization in Gokyo
Day 10: Hike to Gokyo Ri, back to Gokyo and then on to Thagnak
Day 11: Trek to Cho La Pass and then to Dzongla
Day 12: Trek to Gorak Shep via Lobuche
Day 13: Hike to Kala Patthar in the morning and Everest Base Camp, and then back to Gorak Shep
Day 14: Trek to Pangboche 
Day 15: Trek to Namche Bazar
Day 16: Trek to Lukla
Day 17: Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu
Day 18: Departure from Kathmandu

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu, Transfer to hotel
You will be welcomed by our representatives there at the Airport upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. You will then be transferred to the Hotel where you will be briefed about the travel itinerary. Overnight stay at the Hotel.

Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu 
On the second day of the itinerary package, you will be engaged in the sightseeing tour of the Kathmandu Valley. After finishing breakfast at the Hotel in the morning, you will begin the sightseeing tour visiting the Durbar Squares of Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur and enjoying the ancient art and architecture of the monuments. Likewise, the tourists can also visit the Pashupatinath Temple, Swyambhunath Temple and also the Bouddhanath Stupa which are important destinations for both Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. You will return back to the Hotel in the evening.

Day 3 – Fly to Lukla, trek to Phakding
After having breakfast in the third morning, you will take 30 minutes of scenic flight from the Capital City of Kathmandu to the Tenzing- Hilary Airport of Lukla. Though the Airport is considered as one of the most dangerous Airports in the world, flight to Lukla will be full of adventure and thrill for the trekkers. The real trekking then starts from Lukla from where the trekkers start hiking from Lukla to the nearby village of Phakding. Overnight stay at a guesthouse in Phakding.

Day 4- Trek to Namche Bazaar
The trail continues along the Dudh Koshi River the next day before climbing up the way through Himalayan Pine and Deodar, Cedar forests before the trekkers finally make it to Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is the business and trading point for the Everest Region. Namche used to be and still is an important place for trade between the traders of Tibet and Nepal. Items like salt, dried meat and other consumable and grocery items are traded in Namche since many years. Overnight stay at a guesthouse in Namche.

Day 5 – Rest day in Namche Bazaar for acclimatization
The fourth day is allocated for acclimatization in Namche as acclimatization to the changing altitude and the environmental conditions is very important for the trekkers during the course of Everest trekking. A day of acclimatization and rest will help the trekkers prepare for the upcoming challenge in the trekking. Trekking experts suggest the trekkers to have mild walk on the day rather than having complete rest. In the afternoon, the visitors can stroll around the market area of Namche and then talk and converse with the local Sherpa people of Namche. If the trekkers are willing, they can also visit the Everest Hotel which is the Hotel situated in the largest altitude in the world. After that, you can return back to Namche and stay overnight there at a guesthouse. 

Day 6- Trek to Dole (or Khumjung if altitude sickness is a concern)
The trekking resumes the next day after a day of acclimatization in Namche. Initially along the trail, you will cross the valleys along the rhododendron, juniper and coniferous forests and then walk past the meadows with lush green vegetation. While walking down the trail, the trekkers will be lucky enough to view the sight of yaks and sheep grazing on the green pasture field. If the trekkers face the difficulty of high-altitude sickness then they have the option of staying at Khumjung Village inhabited by the Sherpas before heading to Dole. If not, you can directly head to Dole.

Day 7- Trek to Macchermo
On the seventh morning, you will have breakfast at the guesthouse and then get on with the trek towards Machhermo. After crossing past several forests including the local Sherpa settlement areas in Khumjung, the trekkers will then climb along the trail with gradual ascend in altitude before finally making it to Machhermo. Machhermo is considered by many as the home of the mythical snowman Yeti. Overnight stay at a guesthouse.

Day 8– Trek to Gokyo 
Climbing uphill about 300 meters from Macchermo on the eighth day, you will eventually enter the beautiful Valley of Goko. It is one of the important days of trekking as exploring the Valley of Gokyo will be an amazing experience for the visiting tourists. Gokyo Valley is full of natural beauty and hence it attracts a large number of tourists who come for trekking purpose in the Everest. Gokyo is the best place for viewing the Ngozumpa glacier, the largest glacier in the Himalayas. Overnight stay at a tented camp in Gokyo.

Day 9: Rest day and acclimatization in Gokyo
The ninth day of the itinerary is meant for relaxation and acclimatization in Gokyo whereby the trekkers will relax and take rest for the day. A day of rest will greatly help the trekkers to acclimatize to the changing conditions and the rising altitude. During the day, you can also visit and explore more of the Gokyo region and visit the wonderful Gokyo Lake as well. It will be a great time for you to explore the beautiful Gokyo region of the Khumbhu region of the Everest. Overnight stay at a tented camp.
 
Day 10: Hike to Gokyo Ri, back to Gokyo and then on to Thagnak
The next day, an early morning walk leads the trekkers to Gokyo Ri located at 5300 meters of altitude above the sea level. It will be an adventurous walk from Gokyo to the top of the peak. From the top of Gokyo Ri, the trekkers can see the magnificent views of the mountains including the Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu and Lhotse. After enjoying the mountain views, you will then descend back to Thangnak where you will be staying overnight.    

Day 11: Trek to Cho La Pass and then to Dzongla
Moving along the rocky terrain the next day, the trekkers will enter the valley before moving down the steep slope and chasing the icy path all the way to Cho-La Pass. This is another important day of the itinerary as you will come across another pass of the Everest region. It is a difficult day of the trekking as you will finally cross the Pass. Lowering down the stone paved path, you will then arrive at Dzongla. Overnight stay at Dzongla.

Day 12: Trek to Gorak Shep via Lobuche
The next day, the trekkers will move further up from Dzongla to the Gorak Shep. Gorak Shep is one of the important places that you come across during the Everest itinerary. It is located at an altitude of 5170 meters and it is the nearest place from the Everest Base Camp. Four hours of trek is enough for the trekkers to reach Gorak Shep. You can also enjoy the view of the mountains from the place. Overnight stay at a tented camp.
 
Day 13: Hike to Kala Patthar in the morning and Everest Base Camp, and then back to Gorak Shep
Moving along the rocky path with splendid views of the Khumbu glacier and icebergs, the trekkers will cross Thangma Riju and advance further up to the Everest Base Camp. Kala Patthar is a popular region in the Mount Everest as it is also the Base Camp from where the Everest expedition begins. From the Everest Base Camp, the trekkers can enjoy the amazing views of the mountains including that of the Mount Everest, Mount Lhotse, among others. After spending some time at the Base Camp, you will then return back to Gorak Shep where you will be staying overnight in a tented camp.

Day 14: Trek to Pangboche 
The return journey begins on the 14th day as the trekkers will now walk down from Gorak Shep and make their way towards the village of Pangboche. It will take close to six hours of trekking on the day before you reach the village of Pangboche. Overnight stay at a guesthouse.

Day 15: Trek to Namche Bazaar
The trail follows continuously downward as the trekkers will climb down hill and cross past several Sherpa villages before finally arriving at the Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is a iconic town in the Everest region of Nepal which is very popular amongst the visiting tourists and trekkers. After reaching there, you will rest and spend the rest of the night at a guesthouse.

Day 16: Trek to Lukla
After having breakfast, you will have a casual stroll through series of ups and downs chasing the easy trail prior to crossing Dudh Koshi River over suspension bridge to eventually reach Lukla. After reaching the town Lukla, you will find a guesthouse and then stay rest of the time at the guesthouse resting and preparing for the flight next day.

Day 17: Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu
On the 17th day of the itinerary, you will be taking a flight back to the Capital City of Kathmandu from Lukla. In around 30 minutes, you will reach the Capital city of Kathmandu and then be transferred to the Hotel. Overnight stay at the Hotel.

Day 18: Departure from Kathmandu
On the final day of the itinerary, you will be transferred to the International Airport in Kathmandu from where you will catch a flight back to your home country.
